Description

Blend: 71% Cabernet Sauvignon; 25% Merlot; 4% Petit Verdot.

Haut-Batailley continues to make strides under the Cazes family’s stewardship. The considerable replanting project is coming into fruition, with a small parcel of young Petit Verdot vines making it into this grand vin. The team consider this a Cabernet Sauvignon year, however; warm and consistent conditions before harvest let the Cabernet reach its full potential.

There is a core of blackberry and cassis that builds nicely on the palate with a faint hint of graphite and lingering sweet spice (from 60% new oak). Gentle extractions have led to fine and well-integrated tannins, providing structure without being overbearing. This is a very good example of the elegance that can be found in Pauillac this year.
