Description

In warm years, Dominique will use whole bunches for 50% of this cuvée. The wine comes from a total of four hectares of vines with some purchased fruit, too. This also contains the village section of Lurets. There is lovely fruit on the palate with nice grippy tannins.

14 barrels made from 0.75ha, a comfortable return. Fifty percent whole bunch. Concentrated purple colour. A bucketload of dark raspberry fruit, but not too obviously stem infused. Volnay

The finest and most elegant red wines of the Côte de Beaune are grown in Volnay, a village which might be twinned with Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits, for the high active chalk content in the soil and comparatively low clay content. Whereas in earlier times Volnay was made in a particularly light, early drinking style, these days there are many producers making wines which age extremely well.
