Description

The relatively deep soil here helps in drier years, holding water to keep the vines going through drought. This was a particular benefit this year. There is a lovely intensity to the aromas, with tiny red berries jostling for attention with violets and rose petals. The palate is sweet, creamy and rounded, with a brisk acidity to the finish.

The 2022 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru, including one-third whole clusters, has a wonderful bouquet with red cherries and redcurrant scents, a touch of blue fruit emerging with aeration. Nicely integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, fresh and vibrant, and lively with a tensile, citrus finish.
