2022 Bâtard-Montrachet, Grand Cru, Domaine de la Vougeraie, Burgundy

Description

The domaine has a bit more vineyard coming back into production, with 0.38 hectares now available. There is a spicy edge to the wine, not reduction says Sylvie, but coming from the soil. This has a significant, impressive degree of grip for this wine. It is what the French call “droit” – straight and with a note of “fusil” – gunflint.

Critics reviews

Neal Martin MW 91-93/100
The 2022 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is composed on the nose, nicely focused with subtle crushed stone aromas filtering through the red apple and pear fruit, a little petrichor here. The palate is well-balanced with fine acidity, quite crisp and powerful, though I need to see more precision and nervosité manifest on the finish to warrant a higher score.Drink 2026 - 2046Neil Martin, Vinous.com.com (November 2023)

A fullish yellow with some toasty oak. Excellent concentration on the palate, a smoky bacon fat note, a mix of white and yellow fruits, thoroughly weighty, not quite as magisterial as the grandest examples.Drink 2030 - 2038Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy_com (November 2023)
