2022 Langhe Nebbiolo, Cascina Fontana, Piedmont, Italy

Description

Mario’s Langhe Nebbiolo is made predominantly with fruit from Sinio (between 70-75%), which is located just outside Barolo, in the valley to the east of Serralunga. The remaining proportion comes from the cru Vigneto Il Pozzo, in Castiglione Falletto. Maturation is split equally between Slavonian oak botti grandi and cement for one year. This is a Nebbiolo of remarkable beauty and freshness. The 2022 is exceptionally poised, with floral raspberry perfume and juicy, pithy pomegranate. This is pure and invigorating, and makes Sinio look like the future.

Langhe

Langhe is an all-encompassing zone lying due south of Alba and the River Tanaro in the province of Cuneo. Barolo and Barbaresco both lie within its boundaries. Langhe is also the name of a regional DOC zone, which is used to classify wines made outside of the traditional Piemontese varietal scheme. Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines from the region are, for example, classified as Langhe DOC.
