2022 Langhe Nebbiolo, Lasarin, Marcarini, Piedmont, Italy

Description

Marcarini’s Langhe Nebbiolo is again comprised of two plots, from the junior vines of Brunate, in La Serra, and the sandy soils of Neviglie in Roero. In a vintage as dry as 2022, the moisture-retaining, clay-rich soils of Brunate were of paramount importance in protecting the bright freshness and elegance in the wine. Fermentation temperatures are kept low at 25 degrees, with vinification purely in stainless steel, leading to an invigoratingly pure and primary, true Nebbiolo. Full of fresh, crushed cranberry and pomegranate, alongside black tea and gentle spicy tones. This is a wine of real substance for its stature.

Critics reviews

Kerin O'Keefe 91/100
A text book Langhe Nebbiolo, the Marcarini 2022 Lasarin has pretty aromas of violet, dog rose, wild herb and dark spice. Linear and fresh, the savory palate offers wild strawberry, orange zest and white pepper alongside lithe tannins and tangy acidity. Drink through 2026.Kerin O'Keefe, KerinOKeefe.com (February 2024)

Notes of cranberries and strawberries with citrusy freshness and crushed stone minerality. Medium-bodied, dry and chalky on the palate with vivid red berry character and a textural finish. Drink now.james_suckling, jamessuckling_com (August 2023)

About this wine

Langhe

Langhe

Langhe is an all-encompassing zone lying due south of Alba and the River Tanaro in the province of Cuneo. Barolo and Barbaresco both lie within its boundaries. Langhe is also the name of a regional DOC zone, which is used to classify wines made outside of the traditional Piemontese varietal scheme. Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines from the region are, for example, classified as Langhe DOC.
