Description

Luigi Giordano’s plot of Montestefano is the very first vineyard in the top left corner of the MGA, on classic blue clay/blue marl soils. The roots reach far down for nutrients here, with the resulting wine showing a signature earthy depth. Of the 2021s, Matteo’s Montestefano is arguably the most ethereal of the bunch. It sees a longer maceration time this year of 32 days, typical of the vintage, with gentle pump over and some submerged cap (only for the Montestefano). The palate rushes with sweet botanical tones, dried violets, rose and black tea, interwoven with wild raspberry, dried herbs and blackberry. The finish is hauntingly beautiful, carried by the wine’s confident structure and silky tannins.
