Description
The 2021 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes has a light black cherry and cassis-scented bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy tannins, but it just lacks a bit of weight in the middle and amplitude on the finish.
There is no avoiding the fact that it was a challenging vintage down in Beaujolais for Louis Boillot and all winemakers afflicted by the trauma of 2021. In fact, yields here were just 9hl/ha as mildew heavily affected the vines. As such, alcohol levels struggled to reach 11% to 11.5%. I feel that this cannot be disguised by these wines, which feel a bit raw and green. Nothing to do with winemaking - just the onslaught of a tough vintage.
