Description
…and now for something completely different, and this is something absolutely fascinating. These old vines are not just the oldest Mouvedre vines in the world but, planted in 1853, they are original pre-phylloxera plantings and the intensity you’d expect comes through in the wine. The nose is sweet but fresh, like cranberry juice peppered with a touch of winter spice and fresh herbs. The palate is pure warmth, brimming with red cherry, chocolate, orange peel and toasted cloves. 18months in French oak has elevated the complexity, adding flavours of coffee beans and cigar smoke. The wine has focus and freshness and, despite being a rich wine, there is still freshness and a bright acidity. There is length, depth and moreishness.
