Description

The 2021 Baronarques Rouge is wonderful, in my opinion the best yet, and I have tasted most vintages over the last 7 years or so. The nose is incredibly complex, owing Bordeaux varietals along with some Syrah, and shows lots of ripe hedgerow fruit, cassis, Mediterranean herbs, black pepper and dried violets. The palate is rich and bold but also has a certain elegance. Firm tannins and a core of delicious ripe fruit really add a sense of class. I expect the increasing age of the wines is playing its part now, as the wine is showing fantastic concentration. Incredibly complex and long palate, lots of bold cherry and blackberry, licorice and spice. Long finish.

Elegant, subtle yet aromatically expressive and very beautifully scented. Wild herbs. A lovely leafy freshness and a brilliantly plump crunchy fruit. Cassis. Blueberry. This is lively, charged and vertical – there’s almost a sense of St Emilion plateau limestone about this, with that verticality and those ultra-fine-grained chalky tannins. A fascinatingly complex wine, even at this early stage. Very much a wine of delicacy and finesse. I love the sapidity and the rippling juiciness on the finish. The famous Blanquette de Limoux, an early sparkling wine, uses traditional bottle fermentation with Mauzac, Chardonnay, and Chenin Blanc grapes. Limoux also produces Crémant de Limoux and still wines, including whites (Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc) and reds (Bordeaux varietals, local grapes).
