Description

This is a strict selection of their best vineyard rows, which are side by side with Sassicaia’s and Ornellaia’s. The 2020 vintage was a year without extremes, yielding plump grapes with incredible precision of fruit, which winemaker Alex adores.  Cabernet is king this vintage; after a 28-day infusion on skins, it makes up 75% of the blend, giving grippy energy to this fine example of Bolgheri. The remaining 25% is Cabernet Franc and a little Merlot, all matured in French tonneau for 12 months.

The fruit profile is luxurious, polished and fine: dark bramble, Mediterranean herbs and succulent fleshy berry, woven with fine oak and mineral flashes.

Notes of toasted spices, dark cedar, cocoa and bark with a mix of red and blue fruit in the background. Full, compact and lightly chewy with firm, vertical tannins. A new DOC in the coastal Maremma region, Bolgheri first rose to prominence during the 1970s with the emergence of the so-called Super Tuscan wines like Ornellaia and Sassicaia. Having won universal acclaim and selling for unprecedented prices, the authorities relented and awarded Bolgheri its own DOC. The actions of the Super Tuscans inspired a generation in Italy, even if some of the wines here have lost a little of their lustre since.
