Description

The beautiful, organic Châteauneuf-du-Pape has a fabulous aroma of wild strawberries; concentrated and sweet with a light edge of vanilla spice and a touch of mint. It initially evokes strawberry coulis but becomes restrained, the flavours transforming into a savoury, dry finish with a touch of sage. The tannins behave like tiny ball bearings – this is a deliciously succulent, gorgeous wine.

Not yet bottled, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape offers a rich, full-bodied, concentrated, yet beautifully balanced style as well as the classic freshness and purity of the vintage. The largest and most important appellation in the southern Rhône, with more than 3,200 hectares of vineyards and over 80 growers, Châteauneuf-du-Pape produces more wine than the whole of the northern Rhône combined. The gloriously rich red wines, redolent of the heat and herbs of the south, are enhanced by the complexity which comes from blending several of the 14 permitted grape varieties including Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah.
