2020 Côte de Brouilly, Les Griottes de Brulhié, Château Thivin, Beaujolais

Description

The warm 2020 vintage has imparted a wonderfully generous and expressive character to this wine. Fruit is sourced from a south-facing parcel of vines on the Côte de Brouilly, which is farmed organically. The nose is rich, with an array of ripe berry fruits, crushed petals, and sweet spices that burst from the glass. This is followed by a concentrated, dense palate, with layers of dark cherry fruit, fine tannins and a cleansing, saline finish. This is simply irresistible to drink now but will age well until 2035.

Critics reviews

William Kelley 93/100
The 2020 Côte de Brouilly is already very expressive, bursting with aromas of ripe berry fruit, plums and cherries mingled with hints of raw cocoa and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's rich and fleshy, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a sapid finish. In style, this is more muscular than the more elegant 2019, but both represent benchmarks for Beaujolais in their respective vintages.Drink 2021 - 2035William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Aug 2021)

About this wine

Côte de Brouilly

Côte de Brouilly

The Côte de Brouilly, one of the ten Beaujolais Crus, is renowned for its unique terroir with volcanic and granite soils. It is situated on Mont Brouilly's slopes and produces structured, concentrated wines primarily from Gamay grapes. The region's early-ripening fruit and diverse microclimates result in fresh wines that age well, gaining complexity over time.
