2020 Falcoeira 'A Capilla', Telmo Rodríguez, Valdeorras, Spain

Description

2020 Falcoeira is such a brilliant expression of the old, single vineyard site from which its Mencía, Brancellao, Sousón and Garnacha fruit comes. The nose has an immediate depth of ripe, blueberry fruit with a wonderfully floral lift. The palate has impressive concentration, full of black cherries, rounded blackberries with an elderberry edge. There is certainly a granitic feel to this with glorious freshness amidst layers of crunchy, lifted redcurrants, all supported by a blood orange twist. The tannins are like fine powder and move on the palate like miniature ball bearings whilst the finish lingers, subtley and endlessly.  Only 2,664 bottles were made of this ethereally intense, amazing wine.
