The 2021 Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru, aged half in clay amphora and half in used oak barrels, has too much SO2 on the nose at the moment, occluding the terroir expression. I suspect that will resolve with bottle age. The palate is ripe and offers more, with touches of orange rind and pineapple, fine acidity and a satisfyingly delineated finish. In bottle since early June. A light reduction which helps the tension. More of a lemon and lime colour. Fresh apples on the nose, rather classy for Fourchaumes. Deeper soil here, and that shows in the unctuosity of the palate.
