The 2020 Five is a blend of 28% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 17% Petit Verdot and 10% Malbec matured for 19 months in 72% new oak. It has quite a powerful bouquet with touches of wild mint suffusing the dark cherries, wild mint, blueberry and just a bit of pencil box. Fine delineation but quite backward. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip and quite firm in structure, but it delivers a sense of elegance. With a dash of black pepper mixed with bay leaf towards the extended finish, this is a fine Bordeaux blend deserving of two or three years in bottle. NB In the future, Justin van Wyk mentioned that there will be a higher proportion of Cabernets in the blend as new plantings come on line.Drink 2027 - 2042Neil Martin, Vinous.com.com (November 2023)

It is most famous for its ancient dessert wine Vin de Constance, as produced by Klein Constantia estate. The cooling, south-easterly sea breezes make Constantia a natural site for Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon as well as Muscat.
