Looking at the Cornas, the 2019 Cornas Champelrose has a medium to full-bodied, round, nicely textured style, and while it’s unquestionably Cornas, it has a pure, elegant profile as well, and I called this quasi-modern in my notes. Asian spice, peppery herbs, sandalwood, and some savoury herbal notes define the bouquet, and it has plenty of ripe, blacker fruits that develop with time in the glass. I like this today, and it should easily continue drinking nicely for another 10-12 years.Drink 2022 - 2034jeb_dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com (February 2022)

Dark violet colour. Ripe dark berries, pungent flowers, liquorice and cracked pepper on the expressive nose. Juicy and broad on entry, offering bitter cherry, black raspberry and baking spice flavours and a sweetening vanilla flourish. Round, polished tannins emerge slowly on a very long, smoky finish that strongly echoes the berry and floral notes.Drink 2025 - 2034josh_raynolds, Vinous.com.com (December 2022)

About this wine

Cornas

Cornas

Cornas was established in 1938. Only reds are made, and solely from the Syrah grape; a contributing factor to their style is the granitic soil. The wines are made traditionally and often spend two years in oak. They are also strong and powerful – a cross between Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie – but typically display less finesse. After five to 10 years of ageing the best examples take on a more elegant and complex character.
