Description

The Barolo Badarina comes from Bruna Grimaldi’s steep slopes on the east coast of Serralunga d’Alba. At 450m altitude, this is the type of terroir that is becoming increasingly in-demand and quality-focused in Piedmont. This is an incredibly compact and tightly-coiled wine, which is very impressive and detailed. While it’s a tough nut to crack at this stage, the pedigree of this cru is undeniable. The nose is quite vertical and charming, with intense raspberry fruit and orange peel that evolve into a balsamic herbal character. The tannins are structured, but with a core of sweetness that balances out notes of black tea. This is an utterly fascinating cuvée.
