Description

Despite its location in the commune of Barolo, at the western end of the Cannubi Ridge, Paiagallo has very similar soil to Arborina, as well as the same altitude and exposition. Yet, this remains firmly an expression of the Barolo commune, with heady notes of dried herb and a rounded generosity. Alessandro rents two-thirds of a hectare here, and only ages this wine in a 30hl botte, now five years old. There is always something slightly sensual and exotic about this wine, which is showing a lovely intensity in this vintage.

The 2019 Barolo Paiagallo is soft and inviting, with soft contours and tons of charm. All the elements are so well-balanced. Kirsch, blood orange, mint, sweet spice and rose petal all grace this wonderfully supple, understated Barolo. The most open nose of the range with lifted, concentrated red fruit and an undertow of sweet raspberry. Supple but still closed and tight. Veglio's Paiagallo is from a single 30hl botte grande, where the wine ages for 24 months. It's very classic on the nose, with dried cherry, liquorice stick, intense Parma violet, cherry kernel and rhubarb. Firm on the palate, it shows very elegant tannins and a velvety texture, with lifted acidity and great red fruited length.
