2019 Chablis, Dessus La Carrière, Didier & Pascal Picq, Burgundy

It is not too bold a statement to say that this is arguably the best-value Chablis one can buy. It’s from a single special site whose name is Paradis, but which Didier Picq refers to as “Dessus la Carrière” due to its location above an old quarry. The vines, planted in the early 1970s, are rooted directly onto hard limestone soil, on a south-facing slope. The result is a wine which is at once rich and concentrated but refreshing and intensely mineral. This wine can age beautifully, as evidenced by a pristine bottle of 2010 enjoyed at the domaine in summer 2021.
