Description
Vittore makes the point that Monvigliero’s soils are arguably more Barbaresco than Barolo: more marl, compacted sand and limestone. The estate has 1.4 hectares in the 25-hectare vineyard – Verduno’s finest, right in the mid-slope sweet spot. This wine always has a vivid red cherry character; this year, there’s also a softer raspberry note. But it is the wine’s texture that allures: the porcelain, linear and talcum tannins are beautifully on song.

Walter Speller 17.5/20
Verduno. Mid to deep ruby. Tight, compact and very lifted nose with sour cherry, but really very embryonic. This is more sour cherry/cool climate and has less obvious richness compared with their San Lorenzo di Verduno. Amarena-cherry notes and minerally salty hints underneath. Truly complex, elegant, compact and youthful with a beautiful aromatic build-up on the finish. Finely balanced and with a layer of finely ground tannins. Long. Possesses inherent freshness with lots of acidity.Drink 2022 - 2032Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com (November 2021)

Antonio Galloni 91-93/100
The 2018 Barolo Monvigliero has good depth, but is otherwise pretty unexpressive. Sweet floral and spice notes emerge, but only with great reluctance. Readers will have to be patient. It will be interesting to see how this shows post-bottling. The Monvigliero is, uncharacteristically, the most reticent of these wines today.Drink 2024 - 2043antonio_galloni, Vinous.com.com (February 2022)
