Description

This is the interloper in the Alessandria range – the only non-Verduno wine – from vines which came to the estate with Vittore’s mother Flavia. It comes from a superb hilltop site in Monforte, above Bussia at 480 metres altitude, where iron-rich soils sit over limestone. There is always a wind-blown intensity to this wine, with notes of herb and mint from the nearby woods. It’s very pure and detailed this year, with a juicy wild strawberry finish.

The 2018 Barolo Gramolere is the most engaging of the 2018 Barolos here. It shows a level of translucence that is missing from the other wines, most likely because of recent racking. Dark spice, menthol, plum and gravel lend quite a bit of nuance to this ample, expansive Barolo.
