Description

This 36-year-old site sits at almost 400 metres’ altitude, a natural amphitheatre overlooking the rolling Roero to the east. Richer, darker soils give it a more generous expression than Davide’s other wines, with the mixed clay offering more flesh on the palate. Fermentation and maceration take place in cement and French oak botti for three years. The wine is deep, heady and wildly perfumed. It’s welcoming in youth, but there’s a coiled core of earthy mineral grip.

New to the Place de Bordeaux this year. Sweet baked fruit and floral scents on the nose, so expressive and nuanced - it smells divine. Supple, bright and vibrant - you get the mix of crushed velvet tannins giving a mouthfilling texture then the brightness and lift from the red fruit and touches of dryness from the minerality. Excellent definition and character here, supremely balanced and full of life. Just a pleasure to drink. The cleanness / precision comes across more than anything - so focussed. A soft, silky expression with lovely poise on show. It's not shouting but calmly displaying its excellent qualities.
