Description

This is Jean-Luc Jamet’s flagship wine, and the 2016 vintage is regarded as one of its finest examples. It already shows some maturity, which gives it complexity and serious depth of flavour. The nose has savoury notes of leather, game and black olive tapenade, while the palate is lifted by concentrated ripe blackberries and gentle spice. The mouth-feel is smooth and pleasing. And although the tannins are fine, this will shine next to some hearty, meaty fare – preferable something straight from the barbecue. Drink now to 2027.

Critics reviews

100% Syrah. Aged for 20 months in oak (20% new). Quite a bit of reduction on the nose, giving a rubbery edge, but there is impressive, potent fruit too. Better clarity on the palate, and there’s loads of violet character and leather with a touch of earthy funk on the finish. Loads of expressiveness here – full of the first flush of youth. You’d have to have tolerance for that reductive element, but for me, the fruit intensity more than makes up for it.Drink 2020 - 2036richard_hemming_mw, JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2020)

Deep, brilliant ruby. Spice-accented aromas of fresh black and blue fruits, violet and olive, along with a hint of cola. Juicy and seamless on the palate, offering gently sweet boysenberry and cherry flavors that are sharpened by a peppery nuance. Shows good focus on the nicely persistent, gently tannic finish, which leaves a note of bitter chocolate behind.Drink 2022 - 2029josh_raynolds, Vinous.com.com (Apr 2020)

The 2016 Cote Rotie shows lovely black cherry and dark berry fruit. It's medium to full-bodied, with a rich, supple mouthfeel and a long, silky finish. It's not the most nuanced Côte Rôtie out there, but it's certainly satisfying, and it should continue to gain complexity over the next decade or so.Drink 2019 - 2030Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate (Dec 2019)
