2015 Champagne Gosset, Grand Millésime, Brut

Description

Gosset again proves its position on Champagne producers' top table with this magnificent 2015 Millesime. Not the most effortless vintage to manage, yet the results here are immediately enjoyable and capable of further cellaring. 59% Pinot Noir, 41% Chardonnay from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards, giving five years maturing on lees. This gives a nose of golden fruit crumble, jasmine flowers and candied lemon. The palate is firmly foamy, capturing roasted peach, fig tarts and white pear flavours. The finish is long, supported by cox apple tang and chalky mineral freshness.

Critics reviews

Tamlyn Currin 17/20
The Champagne Gosset Millésime is rich and creamy, with stone-cut-oats porridge, lavish latherings of butter, clotted cream and honey. The fruit is rich with ripe peaches and golden melon, but the wine holds a firm line with masses of texture, and those broad shoulders have regal bearing. This is mouth-filling, concentrated and substantial. It’s the perfect wine for Coquilles St-Jacques, I'd say. Drink 2022 - 2035Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com (May 2022)

About this wine

Champagne

Champagne

In 1668, Dom Pérignon is said to have discovered how to make sparkling wine; today his technique is used the world over, although Champagne continues to make some of the finest. France’s most northerly wine region, Champagne is now home to 15,000 growers and 290 ‘houses’. A blend of grape varieties is usually required: white Chardonnay to add fruit and elegance, and two reds – Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – to provide body and backbone.
