Deep, glowing amber – much the same as the Rieussec 1983 tasted at the same time. Real healthy savour of honey, toast and lime blossom. Refreshing acidity and medium body. Very rich, unctuous hit on the palate but supremely refreshing. Lots of green fruit flavours and quite astonishingly vibrant. Vouvray

Based in the Touraine district of the Loire, the 2,000-hectare Vouvray appellation covers a range of dry, through off-dry, sweet to sparkling styles. Its Chenin Blanc vineyards give the wines vibrant acidity and a stony, floral and at times waxy character. Under perfect skies, the producers aim for moelleux sweet wines, hand-harvested by trie, often imbued with noble rot and rich with residual sugar.
